This limited single-lot Syrah is an exclusive project from our winemakers. After selecting superior fruit from Block 47 at Margarita Vineyard, they fermented the whole clusters in small, open-top bins to draw out natural notes of earthy, savory spice. The result is a uniquely styled Syrah with intense fruit flavors, racy tannins and a touch of the exotic.

Tasting Notes
The 2016 Syrah Whole Cluster offers beautiful blueberry aromas with savory notes of white pepper and peppercorn. The palate is remarkably agile, offering a buoyant, velvety texture while maintaining a sense of cool minerality. Flavors of black cherry and blackberry are interlaced with hints of cedar, tobacco, vanilla and clove spice. Racy tannins cascade into a smooth, focused finish.
Vineyard Notes
Our estate Margarita Vineyard stands alone and apart as the only vineyard in its vicinity, unfolding along mountainous fossil-riddled terrain just 14 miles from the Pacific Ocean. Few vineyards are blessed with such a remarkable convergence of soil, climate and rugged beauty. This limited-edition Syrah comes the northern end of Block 47. With its mixture of ancient sea bed and shale soils, this block never fails to produce Syrah with a signature depth and richness.
Production Notes
The fruit was harvested on October 19 and delivered to the winery, where the whole clusters were transferred to one-ton bins. For the next four days, fruit was joyfully and gently crushed via pigéage à pied—punch down by foot. Regular punchdowns then continued by hand until the wine was fermented to dryness, with stem inclusion from start to finish. After the must was lightly pressed, the wine was racked to neutral French oak barrels and matured for 22 months prior to bottling.
