The 2018 Cabernet Franc is a limited release that comes from the Oyster Ridge section of our estate Margarita Vineyard, where profound calcareous soils and a northeasterly exposure combine to yield a Cabernet Franc with a vivid sense of place. This wine belongs to our Pearl Collection, which signifies small lots of the highest quality expressed through alternative varietals and unconventional blends.

Food Pairing Notes
The 2018 Cabernet Franc is a wonderfully versatile wine that should be savored with food. Recommended pairings are herbed pork loin, grilled lamb chops, black bean soup and baked brie cheese.
Tasting Notes
The 2018 Cabernet Franc offers floral red fruit aromas with oak-inspired accents of vanilla and baking spice. A sleek, polished texture unfolds with flavors of red currant, cherry, plum and tobacco, all converging into a beautifully weighted mouthfeel. Restrained acidity and youthful tannins add energy to a smooth, elegant finish.
Vineyard Notes
This wine comes primarily from Block 9 at Margarita Vineyard, which slopes toward a northeastern exposure. This shields the vines from the late afternoon sunlight, resulting in a long, steady growing season that produces Cabernet Franc fruit with beautiful ripeness and proportion. Additionally, the calcareous sea bed soils in this block contribute a distinctly elegant texture to the fruit. Merlot from Block 7 brings a sense of velvety nuance and softness to the blend, while Cabernet Sauvignon from Block 49 adds a structured complement of red and black fruits. Margarita Vineyard stands alone as the southernmost vineyard in the Paso Robles region, nestled into the rugged Santa Lucia Mountain range just 14 miles from the Pacific Ocean in the Santa Margarita Ranch AVA. The mountain peaks act as a gateway for cool marine air, resulting in an extended growing season that yields fruit with uncommon depth and structure. The peaks are also testaments to the tectonic forces that created Margarita Vineyard’s rare diversity of soils, ultimately fostering natural complexity in our wines.
